Working at the intersection of culture and technology.

Drawing on a broad set of skills and talents, I partner with businesses big and small to develop a visual language that expresses a brand’s unique voice.

Born and raised in the Bay Area, I grew up surrounded by creativity and innovation. As a musician immersed in San Francisco's vibrant art scene, I honed my design skills crafting websites and logos for fellow creatives and local businesses. My work blends creative intuition with technical expertise. My background as both an artist and coder gives me a unique edge in developing compelling visual personalities and designing world class digital products.

I’m at my best when I’m leading a team. I've built creative departments from scratch, outlined processes and best practices, and managed budgets in both in-house and agency settings. My focus is cultivating a fun, collaborative environment where everyone is heard and inspired to do their best work.

Recently, I've been obsessed with 3D modeling and motion design. I've also been working on my first feature film score. You can check out some of my music here.

“Michael brought a seasoned creative's eye and process to our team, leading to a stunning website that became a key component of our public image during my fundraising efforts."

Background & Experience

Creative Direction
I joined BitTorrent as a Senior Visual Designer focused on brand identity, marketing and web design. After successfully overhauling the brand's visual identity and positioning to reflect the company's evolving initiatives in the blockchain space, I was promoted to Creative Director. I hired two fantastically talented designers to help redesign the BitTorrent website and marketing materials, with great success.
Product Design
I'm a musician as well as a designer. So designing a new feature for ProTools was an amazing opportunity. I worked very closely with the product and marketing team in the development and rollout of the Avid Marketplace - a vast ecosystem of products featuring a new in-app purchase module built right into Avid software, where users can browse products, purchase virtual instruments, share their work with a global artist community and find tech support - all without ever leaving the project they're working in.
Leading a Team
I built a creative team from scratch at Spark, a San Francisco based PR and marketing agency that was looking to handle all creative needs in-house rather than outsource design work to other agencies. We worked with various tech clients in Silicon Valley and San Francisco, focused on brand identity and web design.

In this role I gained critical experience leading and mentoring a team of junior designers, scoping project timelines and budgets, as well as presenting our work directly to clients.
Web Design and Development
I have been desiging and coding websites for 20 years, using HTML, CSS and even a little Javascript and PHP. I am well-versed in Webflow, Wordpress, Bootstrap, Tailwind, Framer, Squarespace, Shopify, you name it.

My first professional design role was as a web designer for the educational technology company, LeapFrog, where I desiged, coded and helped maintain their worldwide eCommerce site and extensive online catalog of products.

“I’m so lucky that I had the opportunity to work with Michael as he contributed immensely to my growth as a designer. He has a talent for creating an environment where our team felt heard, encouraged, and inspired."
